The Eclectic Tarot combines esoterist Joseph Machynka’s study of numerology, Qabalah, I Ching, Tarot, occultism in a classic Rider-Waite –inspired deck. He is the illustrator too, and it seems the cards are based on very personal pencil drawings, suggesting the author is deeply connected to esoteric symbols of various origins, adding very interesting new layers to the original meaning through numbers, glyphs and unexpected totem and mythological animals, symbolism and cultural correlations.
The deck feels intense and occult, with byzantine spiritualized depictions, strong emotionality and I am most attracted to its geometrical input with the Minor Arcana, where one can find authentic mandalas able to inject additional sacred geometry, numerology and Qabalah meanings into the interpretation.
The deck was published in 1986, definitely a collection piece offering a valuable addition to RW’s original meanings. It’s unique, and like with many good tarot decks, there are insights through the reading one can obtain only with this deck.
